It’s still a bit like winter here in Zone 5. The grapevines aren’t budding yet, nor are the Lily of the Valley. But tiny buds are appearing on the RedBud, and leaves are opening on the lilac. I can even see the greens of peonies, irises and horseradish. The hyacinth is just starting to bloom, and the forsythia are in full flower.

Is the horseradish an ornamental perennial, planted for eating or both?
It’s for eating. I love horseradish, so when a friend offered me a few plants many years ago, I gladly accepted. I’ve tried twice now to make horseradish with the roots, but was relatively unsuccessful. At this point I’m really just trying to keep them alive until I learn how to do it properly. There’s very little involved in maintaining them (at least the way I do it) and they have pretty flowers.
